For the past three and half months I've lived a nocturnal life, producing this film, Northumberland National Park by Night. The idea originally developed late last year, with the support of the Northumberland National Park (commissioning the project) the idea became a reality, and a reality with a cause. The film would be used to actively promote the dark skies of Northumberland's National Park, sharing familiar views in a different light, but also to help achieve dark sky designation for the park, as part of the Dark Sky Campaign.

You can find out more about the Dark Sky Campaign at

To produce this short film I've ventured into every corner of the National Park, from Crammel Linn in the far West, to Hadrian's Wall in the South, up to the College Valley in the far North and everything in-between. I've visited well known (as well as little known) locations at unfamiliar hours and in interesting weather, witnessing some breath taking moments, and unforgettable experiences. Some sights were only witnessed by my eyes, and I'm pleased to be able to share them with you! Like the huge lump of space debris which burnt over head at Simonside, or the snow covered, untouched waterfall, Davidson's Linn.

It's been a big learning curve, my car has been stuck three times in the snow up in the Cheviot Hills, I've climbed The Cheviot four times, and still haven't captured the time-lapse pictured in my head, left for another day. Nothing to dampen the spirit or out compete Northumberland's landscapes, and that feeling you get when you truly love what you do.

I hope the film takes you into the wilderness and beauty of these places, and that it inspires to go and witness it for yourselves.
