The video installation has four main elements dealing with several different themes, subjects and aspects that have been taken from Kurt Vonnegut's book "Slaughterhouse 5" ("Schlachthof-fünf"). The main fertile area of the installation is the manipulation of the concept of time. Vonnegut uses time in an ingenious way throughout the book so as to deal with the void left by the massacre in Dresden, 1945.
The main character, Billy Pilgrim, is abducted by aliens from the planet of Tralfamadore. The aliens explain to Billy that humans experience time without the 4th dimension. This 4th dimension shows time to be completely different to how humans perceive it to be. Rather than time being linear, chronological and therefore being guided by the concept of cause + effect, the aliens explain that time can be experienced in many ways. You can experience all moments in time all at once, you can jump back and forth in time, time is made up of moments and the aliens of Tralfamadore choose to focus on the happy, positive moments in life rather than those that are dark and disastrous .
