Artist Statement:
In 2012, over 280,000 people immigrated to Canada. While the promise of the West inspires individuals and families to leave their homelands, immigration requires adjusting to a new life. Young adults forge new identities, while older immigrants experience a sense of isolation. Survival in a new country demands the unlearning and learning of a culture.
"Changelings" is an intimate study of a married couple whose decision to move to Canada set into motion a series of unforeseen joys and difficulties. This story is part of an ongoing project to explore the repercussions of immigration. Abbas and Soheila are the artist's parents.
