I've been wanting to visit the speed strip at Roa Island for some time -had I known just how beautiful the area is, and how incredible the speed run is, I'd have made the journey a long time ago!
I now have a Canon 7d so I thought I'd make use of the video function and do little Info-vids of the places I visit rather than just take pics. I also used the k4harness mount with Gopro Hero2 for the sailing action. Unfortunately the card decided to pop out the slot and loose half the footage, the better half of course :)
The speed strip at Roa is amazing, as I hope you can tell from the vid. An easy launch with not much of a walk, pretty much all sand from then on, a well defined channel edge which you can sail within a few feet of most of the time, and a nice large range of usable tide (bank shows below 6m).
The sailing club was only recording 23knots of wind, so we didn't do too well on that score, but still managed to latch onto a gust for a 43.7knot max. Serious potential here for top speeds and nautical miles on the right day.
