If you're concerned about the corrosive effect of money in politics, you should be aware of a grassroots campaign initiated by a loose coalition of shareholder activists, pension fund members and elected officials. They are calling on the Securities and Exchange Commission to impose a new rule that would force publicly traded corporations to disclose all political spending to their shareholders.
The movement started with a petition on the SEC website. Over 500,000 people have signed it — and the proposed rule is now on the SEC's agenda. If you support disclosure, sign on to the petition or send in your own comment to the SEC: action.citizen.org/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=9213
