In May 2013 at Belvedere House & Gardens, Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, Ireland the annual "Mullingar Pat Finnerty Memorial Road League" takes place. Now established as a very popular event, the League returns again in 2013 and will take place on the 5 Wednesday evenings in May starting on 1st May at 8pm. The aim of the Mullingar Road League is to promote participation in sport and physical activity and to honour the memory of Pat Finnerty, a former Chairman who gave enormous service to Mullingar Harriers over many years. The League caters for runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities. The organisers are encouraging as many as possible to take part. It is ideal preparation for ladies who plan to participate in the Women’s Mini-Marathon in June.
The race is a 5KM race on a completely traffic free course of mixed trails and road surface. The beautiful surroundings of Belvedere House and Gardens and the longer hours of daylight in the spring evenings makes this a really great event. Almost 700 people participated in the event in 2012 and this number has been growing over the years.
