The title, Dissipative Structures, comes from a scientific theory by Ilya Prigogine which I have interpreted it as “we are constantly evolving into higher, more organized, more complex forms. Several of the dance sections are based on evolving patterns. An appropriate quote from a poem by physicist Richard Feynman is “atoms of consciousness, matter with curiosity”. (if you google Feynman and go to his wikkiquotes, there is some really applicable stuff!)
The dance show is family friendly and should run under an hour.
It features choreography by guest artist Crystal Edwards who has danced with Diavolo and is currently a company member of Black Label Movement in Minneapolis. Other choreography is by Gretchen Osdoba (CSB student), Leigh Dillard (faculty) and CSB/SJU students.
Most all of the music has been composed by Will Van de Crommert (SJU student).
The show will also feature several campus dance clubs, including Illmatic Force and Swing Catz.
Performances May 2, 3, 4, 2013 at 7:30pm.
