“The fact that God is assumed by the Scripture without giving any argument to establish or prove it” (Bancroft 41).
Theology Proper is the study of God the Father
Revelation is a disclosure of truth about God.
The sin of Adam in Eden condemned the whole world.
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned (Romans 5:12).
Redemption is only found in the Lord Jesus Christ
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8).
It is foolish for people to trust their own wisdom and ignore what God has done.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (17) For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. (18) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (19) And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. (20) For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. (21) But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God (John 3:16-21).
God has reveled Himself to all of humanity in His creation. Through observing creation all of mankind can learn of the reality of a Creator.
“Order and harmony are marks of intelligence” (Bancroft 43).
Born again Christians are given understanding of spiritual things by God.
Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, (46) And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day (Luke 24:45-46).
Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come (John 16:13 ).
Creation declares the glory of God but creation does not identify God’s attributes.
“The nature of God is best revealed by His attributes” (Bancroft45).
The God of the Bible is Spirit. He is not comprised of wood, stone, or precious metals.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device (Acts 17:29).
It is though special revelation that man can learn of the nature and character of God.
There are at least five categories of people.
Some are born again believers.
Some are searching for the truth which is found only in the Scripture.
Some are infidels.
Some are agnostics.
Some are atheists.
God has attributes that are unique to Him alone.
Mankind can exhibit the other attributes of God but not perfectly nor completely as God does.
Some examples would be love and holiness.
“The infidel, however, rejects the Bible as a divine revelation and therefore rejects that which it reveals and refuses to believe in the God of the Bible” (Bancroft 41).
