My first film in ages. Years. When I made video films before it was back in the days of tape to tape - U-Matic, Beta SP and even VHS. Love the digital ease of production.
This film was mostly shot in one day with a Flip camera. A few months later we went back to pick up shots of the finished house. I had a sense of what the film was going to do... shuffle! The rest was working with the actors and the location on the day to put the shuffle together. None of us knew whether the couple would stay together or not . And it wasn't important to me at the time.... the actors wanted to know of course.
After this shoot we planned other elements which never go together - someone was always unavailble or delayed. Meanwhile I asked a composer what they thought... and luckily it matched a project he needed to do for a course. I love be-bop. And wanted this particular sax player to get involved as well. We recorded the soundtrack one morning in my studio at home - before the neighbours revealed they weren't be-bop lovers. And the fact it is a walttz.... perfect.
Luckily I was asked to screen some work at an exhibition. This incentive brought the project to here. Otherwise I suspect we would still be attempting to shoot some more! It is done. Here it is. Shuffle.
