Hi. I am Robert Moore - I am a Jazz musician. I compose and perform jazz music. For the last 8 years I have lived here in Portland, Oregon, after a lifetime in the Southeast - mostly in Birmingham, AL. I am, as usual, scratching out a living making music at night and sawdust by day (I’m a cabinet and furniture-maker.)
I put together a huge musical project last year, and it is proving to be way more expensive than I had anticipated, so we’re trying this Kickstarter campaign to try and make it come to fruition. I have personally dumped all the funds I had into it, and more (have borrowed, maxed out credit lines, etc) and we’re still 12G away from getting this to the public.
Here’s what's been accomplished so far:
Materials (songs) written
Arrangements commissioned for orchestration
THE BEST musicians in the Northwest hired for recording!
Entire album recorded - check out romomusic.net for sample clips!
Editing, mixing, and mastering - entire album made ready for press
Album artwork and design completed
What remains to be completed involves the following major facets (and innumerable miscellany):
Royalties for other artists' covers
Plus innumerable other associated miscellaneous costs
So I am asking for your support to get this product out. I really feel it is the best work I’ve ever done - but to use an old analogy: if you have the greatest painting ever made, and it’s hidden away in your closet, what good is it? We want to get this product out for public consumption!
Some folks ax me why I’ve taken on this project. I don’t know other than to answer that it is art that I HAVE to make. I think when you hear it you’ll understand that.
The recording was an incredible three days of a gathering of musicians any festival promoter would die for. The session went down smoothly, and all the cats were (and still are!) excited about the tunes. Beautiful performances by professionals - both young (up-and-coming like Dan Duval, Dan Gaynor, and Willie Matheis), and seasoned pros (like Warren Rand, Steve Christofferson, Alan Jones, Bobby Torres, Scott Steed, Robert Crowell, Dave Fleschner, John Moak, Dick Titterington, and many others)
In approaching this effort I’ve looked at a lot of other Kickstarter campaigns during the process. Many are so vibrant, and creative and energetic! And here we are just spelling out the plain facts - Kind of like the music itself.
Just the facts, ma’am.
Maturity? Hard word for me to use -
Old age? Maybe more accurate.
Good product? Definitively Yes.
