After the closing of several large churches on Buffalo’s East Side, many have come together to form storefront churches. These emerging congregations have helped bring a crumbling community together.
Buffalo's East Side was the topic of the BUFFALO YOUTH MEDIA INSTITUTE in 2008. A collaboration between Squeaky Wheel and Preservation Buffalo Niagara, the BUFFALO YOUTH MEDIA INSTITUTE is a youth media and community history initiative which gives up to 20 young people (age 13-18/8th-12th grade) from Buffalo, NY and surrounding areas the opportunity to learn about the history of their local community by making documentaries about Buffalo. The project starts in September and ends in June and has been funded by the John R. Oishei Foundation, the Margaret L. Wendt Foundation, the Baird Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
