The first in our series giving you a sample of creativity in New York. We were very lucky to be able to work with the guys over at BTYB. After going on a part work/research trip, we wanted to sample some of the local creative people.
The premise was to bring you characters that had a richness, packed full of creative energy but from many many different walks of life. The rich to the poor, the famous to the infamous, the successful to the… well not so successful. However rather than concentrate on what the actual work that they created, we crafted questions which would try to delve deep into the mind of what it takes to be ‘creative’.
An old friend of ours Lenny Feinberg was on hand to help us with our first shoot. He owns Nina Leonard a fashion label that he set up many moons ago. Since then he has gone on to be one of shopping tellys biggest success stories, growing from humble beginnings to selling hundred of thousands of dollars worth of garments.
One thing that sets Lenny apart is his evanescence and his non-stop work ethic. He says himself that he ‘lives to work’. However having known Lenny for a number of years he has been filmed as a caricature of himself almost exclusively. Swearing, shouting and cracking jokes at every single possibility. We knew that he wasn’t like that. Underneath a more sensitive, informative and genuinely passionate person. Most questions signposted him to his past, his family and where is real inspiration comes from.
We decided to set an interview up in his office space, where adorned on the wall a plethora of characters from movies gone by. We also wanted to get a sense of the space around the office, including where all his fittings take place and also where a lot of his concepts are produced ready to be checked and sent for mass production.
Like any good leader they would not be anything without a dedicated and talented team. They are the backbone of the success and provide strength for Lenny to work from.
