Currently, Illinois is the only state in the nation that prohibits residents from carrying loaded firearms in public. On May 31, 2013, the state legislature passed "concealed-carry" legislation that, when signed into law by the governor, will make Illinois the 50th and last state to allow its citizens to legally pack heat in public.
