My name is Jimmy and I am second generation api from the south-east parts of San Francisco. Queer, soul searching and wandering, I’m looking for perceived motherlands and fatherlands. I explore my parent’s intergenerational geographic amnesia during a trip to their perceived homelands in China. They are sojourners who, in the end, may not physically return to their perceived homeland but their spirits will. Through film, I try to retrace and revisit place making in the context of my body, my parents and my ancestors. Footage during my time in the Guangdong province of China will display my parents on both familiar and unfamiliar land. I follow and interview my parents while they visit sacred spaces of their childhood. Pictures of my ancestors, spaces of place making (houses, roads, etc), with a personal narrative will display a sense of displacement.
