Each year in the Spring, students in Mr. Doug Parris's Honors Physics classes get to move outside the classroom and build a Trubuchet. They receive wood, nails, bolts & screws, and access to tools in order to plan and build their very own weapon of war from the 16th Century. The end culmination of the project is to drag them up to the football field and make a field goal with this 500 year-old technology. After much testing, trial, and tribulation, they take aim at the uprights and see if their design can pass the test to score big as part of their final grade.
Here is a short look at an almost all-girl team as they work out problems to get closer and closer to that goal.
Knoxville Catholic is not just about books and tests, it's about truly learning by doing and through real experience. Watch and enjoy!
