A historic look back towards the origins of Plus Gallery in Denver, Colorado. We first opened under the name "Cordell Taylor Gallery," the history of which is complex but in a nutshell we started as an extension of our dear friend and artist Cordell Taylor who inspired us with the gallery he ran under his name within his own sculpture studio in Salt Lake City, UT up until the year 2000. This video captures life from our first two years, when we were young, cool and the only gallery in town hosting both experimental music and avante-garde performances (something we still do on occasion and are still the only commercial gallery to do so in Denver). This compilation was intended to be a creative view of the gallery and was shown in an exhibition of video-based artworks at Weilworks in Denver back when they were hosting exhibitions on a regular basis. Only a couple of the artists are still actively represented at Plus Gallery today (Karen McClanahan and Colin Livingston) but the memory of the others is generally both rich and fond.
I could never find the original master, which was on Mini DV, so I recently had a VHS copy transferred to digital file, thus the poor quality. But a great document nevertheless from our old space and our first couple of years.
The video features the following artists:
R. Scott Davis
