I created this building in 3DS Max during my Diploma of Interactive Digital Media. This is the first building I've ever built in 3D and I was quite pleased by how it turned out.
Basically when I started this building I knew nothing about modelling in 3D. All textures are Pro Materials, the light sourcing is a Daylight System with some small halogens inside the building to show up the painting. The grass was the final thing made and was created using a simple line pattern and scattered across a box ground.
I had trouble even getting to the render stage because most of my objects were heavy in polygons. I used a polygon reducer plugin to fix this. The .max file had run up to over 250mb, it was reduced to 110mb.
Render time was roughly 40.8 hours for Mental Ray Render, Pal 768 x 576 resolution for 800 frames. Currently running 25fps.
