The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) promise to end violence against children by 2030, including against children in conflict situations. Strengthening safeguarding practice is essential to making this happen.
In this talk, the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Violence against Children will explore the relevance of safeguarding to a variety of SDGs, while the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict will examine how peace and development can be harnessed to prevent violations against children affected by conflict. Maalla M’jid and Virginia Gamba will particularly emphasize the need to strengthen accountability and empower children to ensure their protection.
