Throw some seeds to the ground and you may think you have a garden. Something might pop up here and there but chances are the peas you were hoping for will fade to your imagination. Starting with good design is about scoping your space and imagining what things will look like in a few months or a few years. So let’s plan your garden together. One of the first things to consider is where are you going to put your garden? Wherever you choose, consider this: Does the spot receive direct sunlight (about 6 hours)? Is the spot visible from your home (kitchen, bedroom window, etc)? Most vegetables do tolerate partial shade and in sunny YYC, we typically get more sun than we know what to do with. Also, your garden should be something you can see and interact with each day. In Stage 1, you will explore garden design and companion planting. You will also begin sourcing and collecting all the amazing seeds that you want to plant.
