In Khun Yoam, North Thailand, a small miracle is happening everyday... the Buddha Kasettra school is helping 100+ children in need to get proper meals, a shelter, and education. In addition to the regular curriculum, the children also learn organic agriculture and taking care of each other.
In the rice field, like in an open air classroom, the teachers and the kids work as in one big family; this collaborative effort increases their food security, gives an opportunity to the kids to learn about organic lifestyle and helps the school save money and - when the yield is good enough - gain some additional funds to increase their self sustainability.
The rice planted in July 2011 (thanks to the help of ChuayDek, "LUSH Green Night out" and 1% for development fund) was harvested in November, and fed the 120 kids of the school for one year. Part of the rice was also sold for some income of the school.
These children work hard, yet… they deserve fun and a happy childhood. They have dreams; one of them was to be able to see at least once in their lifetime, the ocean... play in the water, hear the sound of the waves, run on the beach… Something that mountain children, like they are, might never be able to do in their life.
In February 2012 ChuayDek helped this dream coming true! We sponsored a study tour to explore the beauty and culture of their land, Thailand, from the hilly Mae Hong Sorn to Bangkok and Rayong. The happiness we could see in the eyes of the children was worth all the efforts made to raise the funds needed!
In 2013, ChuayDek and Friends are living another heartfelt experience, Rice4Kids 2013. Video and pictures will soon be posted at chuaydek.org and facebook.com/Chuaydek.HelpKids
We want to thank all the Friends helping us in this adventure, helping us give children in need more food, opportunities and a healthier environment... and helping us support the Buddha Kasettra school, a small miracle happening every day, far away from the spotlights of our world.
