nycFAR is an exploration of existing built mass of NYC made tangible through zoning regulations such as FAR (Floor Area Ratio). Perhaps the most governing constraint on the volume of the city. Currently FAR is distributed throughout the city to maintain a conservative order in the built environment. However we imagined several new FAR distribution scenarios in which a much more dynamic city is revealed. Certain scenarios deal with general mass distributions which preference parts of the city while others deal specifically with the issue of rising tides and redistributing affected building mass.
