The change is in our hands. Change is how a family made its history. After being involved for centuries in family events, the marquises Spinola are today dedicating themselves to sustainable agriculture and to the education of the spirit. The lands that once were of property of Massimiliana Spinola’s ancestors, and that now hers and of Henri Finzi-Constantine, are a clear example of how another way is possible, and reveal that this way is also right, beneficial an necessary for both our land and person.
The winery of “Castello di Tessarolo”, located in the disctrict of Tessarolo, in the heart of Gavi, Piedmont, Italy. Owns 20 hectares of vineyards. The varieties that are being cultivated are Cortese di Gavi, Barbera and Cabernet Sauvignon. Practicing biodynamic viticulture and working the lands with horses ensures the greatest respect for Nature.
Biodynamic agriculture was theorized by Rudolf Steiner in 1924 in response to the petition of count Keyserlink and his farmers that were worried about soil erosion and consequently, of the quality of their products.
In 2006 the company started practicing biodynamic in viticulture. This technique is essentially based on the quality of humus, plant’s health, green manures and biodynamic preparations as Cornoletame and Cornosilice.
The marquises Spinola will never use weed killers or any other chemical product to work their lands. Every year the grapes grow in a natural way and produce an excellent wine.
Respect can only exist if “you listen”. Listening to Nature is the essential element of biodynamical farming, this method enriches the earth and recreates life. The secret is understanding Nature, with its mysterious forces and uses, only in this way farming can be respectful towards it. The most important thing for the producers of the wine “Castello di Tessarolo” is to show the wellness of their lands, that are cultivated with love and religious respect, to the consumer of their wine.
