Adhesive force is of crucial importance for the study of wetting processes. Due to different surface structures found on the micro and on the nanolevel a high contact angle of a liquid on a solid surface can be combined with a high adhesion or with a low one.
For systems with a smooth surface it is only necessary to measure the contact angle and to then calculate adhesive force using analytical approaches like OWRK theory together with knowledge about the polarity of the surface. In case of rough surfaces like plants, however, or with structured surfaces in general, another measurement method is required.
DataPhysics Instruments makes it possible to measure the adhesive force in a direct way using a tensiometer. We combine optical contact angle measurement together with the weight-based method for adhesion force in one device.
