On Friday, May 10, 2013, hundreds of school children cheered on dozens of bicyclists who were delivering a special donation of free books to them at Frank Elementary School in Tempe.
The cyclists hauled trailers, carried baskets, and wore backpacks packed with hundreds of books they gave to the school children. Cyclists collected books and received donations from Better World Books and Changing Hands bookstore.
This event is part of the Ride for Reading program -- rideforreading.org, and the delivery was done during Ride for Reading Week, when dozens of similar donations were taking place nationwide.
In the last five years, Ride for Reading has hand delivered over 110,000 books and enthusiastically delivered a message of healthy living and literacy to children of low-income neighborhoods.
Frank Elementary School serves more than 600 preschool through fifth-grade students and is proud to be part of the Tempe Elementary School District.
