Society tells us that church is a place for those who have their lives in order, who possess control over their emotion, who are the furthest thing from a dirty, filthy mess. But Jesus is all about messes -- loving them redemptively and cleaning them up eternally. That's why Paul calls himself scum and refuse of the world -- because in Christ, it's okay not to be in control of everything since He's in control of everything; and it's okay to be a heaping mess because Christ is all about order and holiness. When we receive Jesus by faith, this order and holiness is ours.
