Video trailer of TANGO QUERIDO!
This performance is made up of several mime and tango numbers inspired by the lyrics of some of the most famous tangos. Each number is titled after the tango from which it takes its characters whose stories are told through mime and dance.
The performance opens with one of the most typical and ancient characters of tango, the travelling player of the organito (barrel organ) who, together with a mechanical doll, brings the tango to the streets of Buenos Aires. Then comes a more "arrabalero" scene of "treinta y cuatro puñaladas" (thirty-four knife stabs) set in a neighbourhood in the outskirts populated by guapos and traitors, to be followed by the French acclamation of tango which triumphs in the cabarets of Paris and also conquers high society.
The next scene depicts the journey and the dreams of Argentinian immigrants against the backdrop of what always was, and still is, the essential dimension of tango: the night world of the milongas. A whole world comes into relief with its population of guapos, prostitutes, travelling musicians, migrants, milongueros, very rich people and very poor people, people of the night, in a phrase, "tango people".
All the different scenes are but facets of the unique and kaledoiscopic world of tango, a world that is as varied as the humanity which makes it up is. This performance intends to be a homage to Tango and its people, the common people who gave it life and inspired its poetry.
