This story was created as part of a Literacy Residency led by Storyteller and Teaching Artist Katie Knutson in Ms. Helfinstine's 2012-13 Afternoon Kindergarten class at Glen Lake Elementary.
The students studied Pourquoi (How and Why) Stories, chose an animal and characteristic about which to write a story (in this case, a snake's ability to unhinge its jaw), and then did some research. The students created this fictional story using the Pourquoi framework we had studied. This story's setting is the woods of Northern Minnesota.

The residency was a partnership between Hopkins Public Schools and Stages Theatre Company, funded by the Cargill Foundation.
