Refugees from Thailand and Bhutan are coming to live in Syracuse, New York. Though many of them are in their 40s and 50s, and have never been to school or learned to write in their native languages, they faithfully attend language classes at White Branch Public Library. Their teacher, Mary Jane Monsour, a veteran teacher who came out of retirement to teach English for Speakers of Other Languages, has found a new joy in teaching with her class of refugees.
