A nice half-day trip from New Orleans is a ride to "The Spillway" and back with a little exploration in between. My Surly Long Haul Trucker pushes city tires to the limit on some rutted roads, levee tops covered with chipped limestone, and some wide roads made of sand.
Somehow I managed to catch a roaring tailwind both ways. As I killed about two hours at the spillway the wind shifted 180 degrees and pushed me right back to the city. I left home at 06:20 AM and found myself back home by Noon. Round trip plus spillway miles is around 60 total. A detour to the Lakefront on the way home added 8 more miles. Weather was stellar, cloud formations added a wonderful touch to today's video footage, but the Mississippi River was seeping through the floodgates and drowned most of the trails I usually ride inside the spillway.
