Paul understands that without prayer, and more importantly without God’s answer to prayer, we are unable to live out the practical implications of the gospel in our lives. We need divine help to obey God’s word and grasp the fullness of Christ’s love for us.
We are utterly destitute apart from and fully dependent upon the sovereign grace of God in salvation. Therefore, we pray that God would provide the spiritual strength and ability for us to grasp the fullness of His plan of salvation in Christ. Recognizing and accepting then our own insufficiency and our total dependency upon the sovereign grace of God, Paul provides three things we must regularly pray.
