Over the years we have visited Rome many times and we have seen many of its incredible sites. This time we simply met with friends and rambled round the town.
On the weekend we were there, we found the Eternal City to be jumping with activity!
The hugely popular television program, Grandi Fratelli (Big Brother) was being filmed in the Piazza del Popolo. An enormous crowd was on hand and we watched them film the show.
Close to the Piazza del Polpolo is the lovely Hotel Russie where we like to stop and have a refreshing drink in their serene courtyard garden and bar.
We had to meet a friend - a journalist - in the Piazza Navona. As soon as we crossed the Tiber River and headed into the Piazza Navona, we were immersed in an enormous, colorful Gay Pride demonstration!
The awe-inspiring Pantheon never ceases to amaze us and we make it a point to visit as often as we can. The 2000 year old structure is as alive today as it was during the time of the Emperors.
A horse drawn carriage through the streets of Rome was a first for us! It was delightful and both the horse (Romulus) and the driver were charming and entertaining.
We wound our way from the Pantheon to the Trevi Fountain. When we disembarked from the carriage, we were astonished to find the Trevi empty of water! It was being cleaned of algae, and we waited with a throng of other spectators as the fountain was slowly filled with water and brought back to life!
Rome is full of life, energy and visitors from all over the world. Join us on our visit to the Eternal City.
