When Canadian composer Jonathan Kawchuk landed the commission to score a documentary about life’s core element, he embarked on a year-long quest to invent “the sound of Carbon”. For inspiration, he recorded under frozen lakes in the Canadian Rockies, tuned pieces of Japanese charcoal into a “carbon xylophone”, and composed music about the climate emergency in the midst of a forest fire.
Witness the moment Jonathan’s big year comes to a climax, as the Vancouver Film Orchestra and the Vancouver Chamber Choir bring his score to life. Featuring Canadian singer-songwriter Hannah Epperson and the vocal soloist Red Heartbreaker.
In 2022, “Carbon – The Unauthorised Biography” debuts on CBC TV in Canada, in theatres and on ABC in Australia, and around the world on major broadcasters in French and German versions.
An Australian-Canadian coproduction by Emmy-winning Genepool Productions and Sundance-winning Handful of Films.
