Olive and the Volcano Letterpress is a small studio in the hills of Northern NSW Australia. We produce a range of beautifully handcrafted notebooks, notecards and custom print projects - and we craft them with a whole lot of heart and soul.
We were invited by Ms Browns Lounge to contribute a zine to this years Sydney MCA Zine Fair - their table will be a bit of a tribute and celebration of the amazing creatives in this Northern Rivers region of Australia. This little video is a glimpse of our submission from a very "real" ie messy desk of ours. We're big fans of zines that really speak of the act and process of cut and paste and the ones that have a real sense of being intuitive publications rather than being overworked. There is something very honest and immediate about scissors and a glue stick! We like the rawness of some of the pages and the accidents that happen. Our compositions may not be totally "perfect" (whatever that is!) but they are truthful images that come from a real emotion. All of this intuitive laying down of paper doesn't mean that we don't use the computer as a tool also - you'll find a bit of Illustrator in here too. We also wanted to explore a theme that we could easily connect with and we had been grappling with the urge to move ourselves back home to Melbourne. This zine is a small exploration of a big question - where do we belong? and sometimes these big questions can be answered best by the smallest people in your life, in this case it was our kids. Wise little beings that they are. Enjoy. J&A
