Bali is one of the rare areas where sunfish (Mola Mola in Indonesian) are regularly seen by divers and fishermen.
During the months from May to October - depending on cold water temperatures - sunfish are regular visitors on the reefs off Bali.
They are often surrounded by bannerfish, which pluck the parasites from their skin. This cleaning is for the sunfish, the highest enjoyment. They hang in the water, the head towards the surface and seem perfectly happy.
Sunfish are regularly sighted in May and June at the Liberty wreck and the dropoff in Tulamben.
They are found when the water is cold, off Padangbai, often at Mimpang and Tepekong, often off Nusa Penida in Crystal Bay, off Toyopakeh and at Batu Aba.
