Under a new and improved name, the old "Work-a-thon" has become "Serve-a-thon" for Opelousas Elementary! Towards the end of the school year, each grade chooses a project to serve our community or to show the love of Christ to a specific group. The first Serva-a-thon was held by the sixth grade, with five different projects on the Opelousas campus: weeding and re-mulching flower beds, painting the softball dugouts, scrubbing the concrete columns, trash pick up across our 30 acres, and rubber mulch pick-up under the playground equipment. All the sixth graders worked hard and needed showers afterwards! Other grades sang, took cards, and played Bingo with nursing home residents; collected and packed items for disbursement in Liberia; and made care packages for children in the local hospital's children's wing. A lifetime habit of service to others is the pattern thus set!
