Songwriting is one way A Rocha has taken root in Nashville. In 2012, a small group of Nashville A Rocha supporters began to wonder, what shape could A Rocha take here? It wasn’t long before the idea of a songwriting retreat around the theme of creation care took shape. The first retreat was held in April 2013, and it was during this retreat that most of the songs on From Smallest Seed were created.
We see music as connected to creation care by the idea that we are shaped by what we sing. It’s our hope that the songs that emerge from these retreats will help people better see, love and care for the places they inhabit. As Nashville A Rocha continues to host these gatherings, it’s also our hope that they will serve the musicians in our community by fostering those relationships and making creative space for reflection on the connections between faith, place and music. Undergirding it all is hospitality, and we are grateful for the many volunteers who have come forward to beautifully set the table every time we gather.
