[TRANSCRIPT]: - Adrian is amazing, he is funny, he is super sweet and loving. Just spunky. When he was three years old, he got diagnosed with liver Cancer. Unfortunately, he also had a relapse a few months later.
- I met Dr. D, I met Dr. Hall. I like doctor, that they work hard to help children.
- We are one of the largest pediatric radiation oncology programs in the country treating more than 120 patients per year. When patients are coming for Cancer therapy, it's important to have an environment that is supportive and helps them to focus on what they need to do. We have dedicated rooms where younger children can play or older children can relax and approach their treatment in just the right way.
- When I meet him, I hug him and I give him a high five. He goes into the room and just checks my back. He wants to see if anything is wrong or broken.
- The care that you receive here is priceless. Absolutely priceless. They bend over backwards for you. For your family, for your children. He was into superheroes at that time. We told him he had kryptonite in his belly and that the doctors had to go in to remove it.
- I was going through Cancer. I had to go to the machine. I took a lot of shots. They made me a special mask out of like foam, and they fill it up and color it red, and they made it look like Spider-Man. It would go around my ears. When I would wear the mask, it would look really cool.
- Once a decision needs to be made that, yes, radiation therapy will definitely help this patient, my job then is to figure out how to give radiation therapy as safely as possible. Which technology is going to minimize their chances of having long-term harms from the treatment without compromising their chances of cure. With proton therapy, Adrian essentially had limited radiation exposure to the rest of his body. And this is important for patients with long survival, and Adrian continues to do well.
- It makes me happy because I'm better. I don't have to go to the hospital anymore. I have nothing to worry about. It makes my mom happy. And she thinks it's very cool. I feel thankful for them helping me get better.
- I think of MCI and I think of just overall great patient care, dedication. The people that work here, I think really have to love what they do and they do.
- Cancer care is incredibly expensive. So the bounce back campaign is incredibly important, not necessarily for providing the care that patients needed at Miami Cancer Institute, but it supports their ability to get groundbreaking advanced care, including clinical trials that would otherwise not be available.
- The Bounce Back event, We're looking forward to doing that this year. Adrian definitely wants to do it. Basketball is life for him right now. He knows he was sick and he knows that he's better now. Adrian is my super hero.
- [Adrian] Join the heat, you can help find the cure.
