This is Abraham Lincoln's first public speech in 1832. As an immensely important orator of American history, I thought it was important to look at his earliest speech to see how the principles he adopted in his public speaking as a community organizer while running for the senate found their way into his later, more famous speeches and how they affected his governing philosophy while in office. Lincoln was also an extremely important historical figure in the period we are studying and since this speech falls within the dates of the class, it seemed important to include.
