This video consists of documentation footage of a same-titled performance, which has been the initial kick-off for a project presentation I had to do for University.
In the course »Unpacking Europe« tags like migration, nationality, border, geography, culture, money (EURO), heterogeneity and hybridism built the frame of input to creatively investigate Europe's meaning in an everyday urban life.
My very interest went to the European Union in relation to the wave of financial crises during the past years. I started to question capitalism and how it is functioning. Likewise I wanted to know more about the creation and history of capitalism with reference to (the understanding of) civilisation.
For my project I – as a human – wanted to draw a picture on that constant dual moment of being and functioning in a capitalistic system and thus question the state of living.
Since September 2012 I collected my receipts (until May 2013) whenever I went out to buy things. The concept for a performance then was to stick these receipts on to my torso as if to re-identify with what I bought, with my consumption, let this corset dry and then cut it off of my body. The receipts would be re-valued or loose their value. A new, decontextualised shape would be created for them as well as for me. – I became a product of myself. But whereas I would free myself from this dress of consumerism and go back to my “normal” human shape the receipts would become a sculptural leftover.
