I had a few days in Barcelona with Claire and decided that that would be the perfect opportunity to try out lens whacking for the first time. The majority of this video is shot using the lens whacking technique but there are also shots using a GoPro 3 Black and around four or five shots using a fixed 30mm lens.
Against the wisdom of the lens whacking master, James Miller, I used a crop sensor body (my Canon 550D) as that was all I had available to me. However, I still really like the end product. I also used an old Carl Zeiss 50mm that I borrowed from a friend. I couldn't use the aperture control but realised that when I moved the slider from manual to auto, that changed the aperture so I did have some control. But as I didn't have any ND glass with me, I had to shoot most of the footage with a deep focus.
Lens whacking footage: 550D w/ viewfinder attached and Carl Zeiss 50mm f/2.8
Non-Lens whacking footage: 550D and Sigma 30mm f/1.4 & GoPro 3 Black 720p 100fps both conformed to 24p.
