We were honored when the opportunity to film good friend Brandon Holstein's Born Free 5 bike came up. Brawny has long been the answer to all of our bike problems, questions, and heart aches. We feel extremely lucky to be included early on in this build documenting his process Here's a quick overview of his beauty this year:
When mechanical design is driven by the functionality and purpose of speed you are bound to see results leaving your eyes watering, heart pumping, and arms cramping. The start of these concepts most always begins with the idea to out perform everything else around it. We find beauty in these machines not from the added weight of unnecessary bells and whistles, but rather in the rawness of materials with perfectly balanced lines. For Born Free 5, Brandon Holstein of Brawny Built has created this perfect balance pulling inspiration loosely from the Road Race generation of bikes. He's improved on the already stellar sub-frame and chassis of a HD Sportster to handle it's new Mach Modified engine and transmission combo, pushing over 100hp to the wheel. A custom set of tins were developed, purpose built to streamline the bike keeping as low drag as possible from wheel to wheel. An Ohlins steering dampener and set of rear shocks along with Speed Merchant triple trees and fork tube adjusters keep this bike straight at speed, tucked through turns, and upright when breaking. The beauty is in it's functionality and purpose, both which this bike has plenty of.
