From Mbandaka we traveled another ten hours (70 km) upriver in a dugout canoe to the village of Lolanga where the Equatorial Forest drops off into the mighty Congo River. We arrived at the end of the day and were greeted on the water by an entourage of villagers singing and dancing to welcome us. Their reception was overwhelming. Everywhere we went there were huge crowds waiting to greet us. What an unforgettable experience!
