I have experienced a lot in the Marin Headlands. Adrenaline, bliss, laughter, love and sadness. It never gets old and it's amazing to know it's only a five minute drive over the Golden Gate Bridge.
I shot this footage in early may and after reviewing I felt it didn't fit my original idea. Over the next few days I listened to a lot of different music commuting to work and with the captured footage fresh in my mind I sought a new vision. A Tycho song inspired a different approach and feel with the material I gathered. I laid the main edit down pretty quickly but I felt like something wasn't right, something was off. I had to put it away and come back to it later. I danced around with this video a lot over the next couple of weeks. My days off would come and I would make subtle changes here and there. If something didn't feel right I would change it until it did. My friend Delissa would frequently ask, "Where is that video?!" "I know, I know" I would say. I'll always remember film editor Michael Kahn saying how he edits for feeling. When I'm feeling too pressured to edit a certain way I just hear his voice, let go and do just that. "Edit for feeling"
I was holding back and it somehow was reflecting on my life, why am I holding back? What am I afraid of? It's all right in front of me. All the pieces I need to move forward are here just waiting to be lined up properly and inspire me.
Let's see what the next couple months bring...
