Operated by Fresno EOC Sanctuary and Youth Services, Safe Place is a youth outreach program that connects businesses and volunteers to provide help and safety to youth facing abuse, neglect, bullying or serious family problems.
The goal of Safe Place is to offer immediate help to any youth in crisis by “Opening the Doors” through a network of 266 Safe Place sites who serve as access points into the Fresno EOC Sanctuary Youth Shelter.
Sanctuary Youth Shelter is located in downtown Fresno targeting homeless, runaway and displaced youth who are often the most “in need” of immediate intervention due to their high vulnerability and risk factors. Many youth have turned to a life on the streets due to their home being abusive, violent, or otherwise dysfunctional. The intent of the Sanctuary’s efforts is to reduce factors that promote homelessness among youth and provide them with a Safe Place through our Sanctuary Youth Shelter.
Without these interventions, these individuals are frequently victimized. There is no parental supporter or safe living environments for these youth beyond Fresno EOC Sanctuary Youth Shelter or Transitional Living Centers. The geographic area we serve contains the highest concentration of poverty, homeless and transient persons, especially youth in Fresno.
In 2012, Fresno EOC Sanctuary and Youth Shelter served 290 youth with nowhere else to go, providing them a safe place during crisis and instability. We also facilitated the transition of 264 youth (91% of those admitted) from crisis into alternative safe living arrangement.
