At the end of the day, this film is about sourcing the very best coffees, the right way -- from seed to cup - AND changing the world through the simple act of drinking a cup of coffee.

Thanks to the support and patronage of its loyal customers, Boca Java (and its parent company - Luna Gourmet Coffee & Tea Company) partnered together with Project C.U.R.E to deliver medical relief to Nicaragua - all in support of the farmers and community with which they have developed a Direct Trade relationship. Luna Gourmet Coffee & Tea Company (Luna Gourmet) established the C.U.R.E. Coffee program through its Boca Java brand to reach the most number of customers who buy online through $3 from every bag of C.U.R.E. Coffee sold on goes to Project C.U.R.E. to support the coffee growing region where the beans are grown. Also all of Boca Java's Direct Trade coffees give money directly to farmers. It's easy to make a BIG difference with your morning cup - simply visit to buy bag of C.U.R.E. Coffee or Direct Trade Coffee today!

But there's more to this story...

Coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world (second to oil), yet the farmers who live and grow these prized beans in 80 counties around the equator, live near poverty. In fact, the average salary for a Central American coffee picker is just $500-$1,000 annually. This has to change! That's why Luna Gourmet and it's Boca Java brand are taking steps to make a difference by buying a large portion of their green beans through Direct Trade and Fair Trade relationships. These Direct Trade relationships are mutually beneficial and help support economic growth in developing coffee growing regions.

The Direct Trade Difference:
Luna Gourmet carries many Fair Trade Certified coffees (certified by Fair Trade USA). Fair Trade guarantees farmers a minimum price, and links farmers directly with importers, creating long-term sustainability. Luna Gourmet supports Fair Trade, but they also aim to go beyond Fair Trade with Direct Trade buying relationships. Direct Trade allows them to work directly with farmers and offer the farmer a higher price for their superior quality beans. Direct Trade bean costs are typically higher than the minimums mandated by Fair Trade co-ops, but this premium allows Luna Gourmet to hand-select even higher quality beans from unique micro lots that would be inaccessible without such relationships.

They work directly with farmers to choose the right crop -- allowing them to cup the best quality coffees available. When farmers are paid a fair price for their green beans they can, in turn, provide fair wages, healthcare, education, food, clean water, and shelter for their families and workers. This type of care also extends to the land and its surroundings, allowing the farmer to plant, grow, harvest, and package, all while taking care of their farm and the environment.

Luna Gourmet is committed to building more mutually beneficial business partnerships with farmers and buying an increasing amount of Direct Trade coffees in the coming years. Buying coffee beans through Direct Trade isn't always the cheapest way to buy, but they believe it's the right way.

Why Choose Direct Trade Coffees?
- Help improve the lives of farmers and their communities. When farmers receive a fair price for their beans, they have more money in their pockets to support their local economies.
- Ensure you're getting the highest quality beans from the best micro-lots.
- Get greater transparency that allows you to make buying decisions with origin and quality in mind.

Support Coffees for a Cause:

With 400 million cups of coffee consumed daily in the U.S., there is a BIG opportunity to positively impact the world through the simple act of drinking a cup of coffee. Luna Gourmet has established several long-standing philanthropic relationships and a variety of ongoing programs that aim to give back with what they call "Coffees for a Cause". This film highlights the C.U.R.E Coffee program, but it's just one of many programs that aim to make the world a better place through coffee. Learn more at:
