This is a preview of a Love Story film we have been working on. Although it was shot in the Seattle area, it tells the story of an eternal love that crosses from the hills of nineteenth century Ukraine to modern-day Seattle.
The story is based upon the Slavic traditions from Ivan Kupala holiday (Feast of St. John the Baptist), celebrated in early July. It is celebrated near a river, as water is central in rituals of purification and fertility. As it is celebrated in Ukraine, young men jump over bonfires to show their bravery and young women float wreaths of flowers on the river, watching the flow patterns in the river to gain foresight into their relationship fortunes. Men may attempt to capture the wreaths, in the hope of capturing the interest of the woman who placed it into the river.
