On Wednesday 22 May 2013, acclaimed novelist Kate Forsyth visited Hornsby Library to talk about her new novel, The Wild Girl. Kate Forsyth is known for writing books filled with history, suspense, romance and magic.
The Wild Girl retells one of the greatest untold love stories, that of Dortchen Wild and Wilhelm Grimm. They grew up living next door to each other in the small German kingdom, Hesse-Cassel, in a town famous for its fairytale castle of turrets and spires, built as a love nest for the Prince-Elector’s mistress. When the town was invaded by Napoleon’s army in 1806, the Grimm brothers began collecting fairytales, wanting to save the old stories from the domination of French culture, and Dortchen became the source of many.
Kate spoke at the Library as part of the Sydney Writers' Festival 2013.
