I was foley editor and sound designer for the feature film 'Mephisto Effekt'.
The film is about Lea, a young student, who gets to know Ryan, a charming and mysterious man. Even though she is in a relationship with her boyfriend she lets Ryan seduce her. Next morning Lea is in for a rude awakening. What seems to be an attempted blackmail turns out to be an odyssee into the depth of the human soul and both Lea and Ryan have to take responsibilty for their actions.
Sound plays a big role in this almost chamber drama-like film. Director Igor Zaritzki had the vision of a very dynamic soundwork. Most sounds and atmospheres are used unobtrusive and minimalistic, yet some dramatic scenes stem much of their impact from sudden and more intense, 'in your face', soundeffects.
This way the sound level very well creates a good part of the films overall feeling of uncertainty, where the spectator never really knows what's going to happen next.
