Dino Fallone was a student of mine. I learned he had a band, so I invited them to play for students enrolled in a course called the Digital Image. CAS111. The assignment was to cover the concert... photograph the band, the crowd, the surroundings, as a photojournalist would for next days newspaper.
The turnaround is fast. Shoot, download, tweak, and turn in.
Students have an opportunity to get up really close, to move around and find interesting vantage points, to keep their eyes open for interesting shots...
Experiential learning is one important component in my teaching -- fun for the students without loosing any of the didactic objectives set out to be covered.
