My project REFLECT is a smart mirror that uses processing, Kinect and OpenCv to detect faces and overlays on images of parts of other people. This was demonstrated working during my presentation.
Conceptually the piece was about addressing self image and saying that ultimately
it is something that seems to matter a lot to most but that maybe it should matter less. The mechanism for this was to use the technology in order to present people with a different 'view' of themselves to what they might expect in a regular mirror. This view actually being a view of other people. Not just whole different people but abstracted parts of many people. This is almost like, exposure therapy for phobics, showing the reality of a situation for what it is.
We are all different and its that variety that makes life interesting and that we should embrace. Not get stuck on our own images.
